A Journey to Relief Society

A while ago, all the Laurels went to Relief Society instead of our laurel class. It was my very first time going and don't tell anyone, but I was secretly excited. The young women always groan and moan about going because everyone there is old but I love the so called "old" people. They have so much experience behind them and they give the best advice. The lesson was taught by a sister in our ward and she decided to teach about peace. She asked what our definitions of peace were. Most people said things like a clean house and a book to read. Others said reading the scriptures and going to the temple. Personally, peace to me is a summer morning in a clean room with the windows open. Or it could be sleep... But anyways, this lady told us about how she had twins a while after she was married but she wanted more kids. She and her husband waited years and years but they couldn't ever have any more. She prayed and fasted for more kids. Then one day, someone knocked on the door, handed her a baby and then walked away. It was a baby girl and she instantly fell in love with her. They took this new baby through the adoption services and adopted her. Conveniently, her husband was a lawyer and he sped up that process. They took her to the temple to get sealed and five minutes after they were sealed, that precious little baby died. This sent the mother through a spiral of depression during which, she believed that her Heavenly Father didn't love her anymore. After years of hurt, she finally realized that she didn't need to feel so bad about this and that it wasn't her fault. And most importantly, she realized that her Heavenly Father loved her. It took a while but she felt that inner peace and knew that she would see her baby again.

This story really touched me. I hope that someday, I can have that much faith and trust in Heavenly Father's plan for me.

A little note: I'm going to only post spiritual posts on Sundays because that's when i usually feel the Spirit the most. I just really wanted to post this today though :)

It's been awhile...

So yeah.. Awhile back, after I started this project, I kind of changed my mind about doing a blog for this project. Some exciting stuff has happened in the past couple of months (I'll get to that in a second) so I changed my mind! I had thought that I wouldn't have enough time to post or enough things to post about. But that will definitely be different!

And that exciting news is...

My mom was called as the Stake Young Women's President!! It was such a surprise!! When our stake president asked to meet with her, we thought it was going to be something primary or relief society related. Not young women's! She told me that the only time she has been in young women's was a long time ago and she was an adviser. It's pretty amazing that she received this calling! So... because my mom is the stake young women's president, I'll have lots of stuff to post about! Which is why I'm starting again. I also think that it's good that there is some place where other young women's leaders can look for activities, lessons, or other related stuff. I'll make sure it's all detailed :)

In the past, young women's presidents and their presidencies, or any type (young men, relief society, Sunday school, etc.) in this case, have had a goal or purpose that they'll focus on. Sister Elaine S. Dalton's was virtue. I don't know if you've ever noticed but in every video or General Conference that I've seen her in, she always wears a yellow or gold jacket (gold being the color of virtue in the Personal Progress program). I feel like President Gordon B. Hinckley's big emphasis was temples. Anyways, my mom's presidency is going to emphasize missions, particularly young women preparing to go on missions. I totally agree with them! With the new mission age for young women lowered from 21 to 19, I can't see any reason why a young woman shouldn't go on a mission, or at least prepare for one. Young women should have the desire to serve a mission and serve the Lord. If you meet you're true love before you get to serve a mission, that's okay! Preparing for one will increase your knowledge of the Gospel and having the desire to serve the Lord is something we must always practice whether you're on a mission or not! Going to mission prep, reading your scriptures, and learning from the Preach My Gospel manual all increase your ability to talk to your friends and family about the Gospel, which is something that we have been commanded to do. Why not learn how to do that? And think about your future families! Think about how much better prepared you'll be the teach them the Gospel if you've studied it yourself! And thinking with an eternal perspective, eighteen months is minuscule compared to the 70+ years you'll be on this earth and definitely minute compared to all of the eternities!

I am so excited for this blog! And I am so proud of my mom! She is amazing! More posts to come! I promise!!

First Post!

Hey guys! So I'm starting this blog for a Young Women Personal Progress project. If you aren't familiar about the Personal Progress program, Personal Progress is a goal-setting and achievement program within the Young Women Organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This program is roughly analogous to the Scouting and Duty to God programs in which LDS young men are encouraged to participate. Personal Progress is split into sections that each focus on a specific value. These values are Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works, Integrity and Virtue. At the end of each value, young women have to complete a ten hour project that has something to do with that value. I am making this blog for the value of Integrity.
So I'm going to post about the things we have been doing in my Young Women group at church. Everything we do there is integritous (is that even a word? haha). Anyways, I'm going to be posting at least once a week, maybe more! Stay posted! :)
